Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
